Phone call...Should I worry??

My handyman didn't show or call all day today.

I waited for steam to begin to puff out of my husband's ears as he went into his daily rant and formulated a plan to take "this guy to court".

And then.

The phone rang right in the middle of our Jeopardy contest; another story, but suffice to say that we are serious about Jeopardy. We watch the show and play along, keeping score and declaring ourselves "the champion", occasionally, well, okay, usually, when I win, I've been known to break out with Queen's anthem, "We are the Champions" - Substituting "I" for "We"....But, I digress.

The phone rang, I knew that it was someone who did not know us as usually we will ignore the phone during the show. My son grabbed for the phone. Hang on, having a little problem here. Got it.

On the phone was the handyman's girlfriend. She went into a long story about how he wanted her to call and tell us that he has not forgotten us. Uh huh, okay, I'm losing the contest 'cause I knew that answer and she's going on and on about how she has two kids and doesn't need another so he better just stay back there and not bother her.

What? I stopped her and asked why he has to stay in the back. "He's sick" was her answer. Apparently he has been having dizzy spells, body aches and one side of his face is numb.

I'm listening with one ear and considering smacking my husband who is happily continuing to add to his score even though he sees that I'm on the phone here.

Commercial break and I hear the girlfriend telling me that he won't go to the doctor and that he's acting like a child and she doesn't need another child. I'm thinking that she's "really concerned there, honey". Finally she says again that he wanted to let us know that he will be back when he's feeling better. I thanked her for calling and letting me know what is going on.

By this time the game is over, hubby has a grin on his face (he has won tonight) and I'm sitting there.

I'm sitting there holding the phone and thinking that the handyman had been talking the other day about the fact that that his father had arrived around the middle of April for a visit. From Mexico.

Does anyone know if these are symptoms of this Swine Flu?? Kinda worried over here!!

Hey Cinn, I Googles Swine Flu and the symptoms didn't include the facial numbness. What your handyman is experiencing is more neurological than viral, which is what Swine Flu is.

I wold contact your health dept and speak with them about your concerns. They would be the best ones to help you out. This stuff is nothing to mess with.

Could be a cover excuse but a little too much detail for that. Sounds like a stroke or something not very good.

Either way your bathtub is delayed I'm afraid.

Doesn't sound like swine flu symptoms. Besides the CDC came out yesterday with the markers for this flu and it turns out it is no more dangerous than the regular flu so I wouldn't worry.

Frankly I'd worry more about whether your bathroom is ever going to get done. I guess I spent too much time in management to totally trust anyone saying they are sick especially when they have proven not to work much anyway.

If it were the swine flu he wouldn't be able to get out of bed. The flu knocks you down pretty hard.

I knew I could count on you all! Thanks for the comments - I guess I'm back to playing the wait and see game.
